For most of us this is an easy thing to do.
We may slip up now and then but we do love and respect our parents.
However, there are parents who are themselves not honorable people.
Even then, though they are unlovable and unlikable,
they are to be treated with decency and good manners.

I was blessed with loving parents and I honor them without hesitation.
I don’t know if I would be able to say that had I been mistreated or abused.
How do you honor your parents?

Blessings this day of grace,

patricia

  1. I’ve never thought about that command and how it should be honored even when the father and mother are monsters. Tough one for the tortured child.

We grew up in a time when all children respected and honored their parents for fear of the pow-pow 🙂

    1. I don’t know how they do it but some do honor their parents in spite of history. I believe it is only with faith and the Spirit’s help that they can do this.

  2. I have always marveled at my mom who was so good to her own mother, though she abandoned them at times for her boyfriends and my mom ended up getting married at the age of 15. I never heard her say anything bad about her mom. We would go and mow her grass each weekend and mom would visit her and play Yahtzee with her. Thanks Patricia for helping us think about these things!

    1. Your mom is an inspiration and a role modelren. There is a need in the world to have basic respect for life regardless of how someone has lived. We don’t have to love or even like a parent but we are to respect that they are living beings good or bad. If God only has mercy on the good we are in trouble None of us are up to His standard of goodness.
