I have been talking to Jesus about my habit of complaining.  I know that we are not to complain and why:

Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children of God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people. Phil 2:14-15

Bad habits are just that, habits. Things we do and say without thought.  We accept them as part of who we are and excuse them as little lapses of good behavior. We are not to do what we know is wrong.  If we are doing wrong we are to stop now. We cannot be bright lights if the lamp is dim and murky.

But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander,
and dirty language. Col 3:8

I  understand that my complaining attitude is due in part to anger.  The fact that I am often angry makes me…angry. When I complain my words are not honorable or kind or loving, they are indeed dirty. Still, I complain and often about the silliest unimportant things.  thankful-1081614_640Really I have nothing to complain about. My life is good and  I am blessed beyond measure.  Does that mean my life is perfect?  Of course not, but it is good.

Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you.
Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. Eph 5:4

Jesus has a lot to say about my complaining.  It is obscene and foolish and coarse and He has better things for me to do and it all starts with thankfulness.

Thank you, Jesus!

Do you have a bad habit that seems trivial?  What does the Lord say about it?

Blessings this day of grace,
patricia

  1. Ah, bad habits that we are aware of is a blessing that God throws a light to it to notice and change. Imagine that we never noticed our anger, that is a shame. Darkness, darkness of the soul is what I go through every now and the. Be blessed today and always.

    1. Yes, God’s grace is a light to show us the what we need to do to change and that is a great blessing. We all have our times of darkness yet there is always light, sometimes just a flicker but all we need to remind us of His presence.

  2. This is a strong message, a reminder I need! It is so easy to dismiss bad habits and not realize that it is important we strive to change then. Complaining comes too easily to me. Today I will not complain!

    1. Complaining sometimes seems like my second nature and I often excuse it as just who I am. That is not what is meant to be we are to be like Jesus! You are wise to take it one day at a time, Josie, that is all that is asked of us.
