When God Whispers

Deuteronomy 4:2 nlt

girl-498016_640We like to pick and choose what we want to do and how we do it.
If something doesn’t suit us we like to make changes so it is a better fit for us.
We like to add a little something here and take away something there.
We like to tweak things until they are perfect in our eyes.
But when it comes to what God says there is no editing or refitting or tweaking to be done.
It is perfect as it is is.  What is not perfect is us.  Not yet.

Deuteronomy 7:6 niv

Our being part of God’s purpose was not a random act.
Like the Israelites, God has chosen us.
We are holy, set apart for His service.
We belong to God. We are His beloved.

Even though God knows all about me He still chose me,
made me holy unto Himself, and loves me.
Hard for me to believe but it is true.

Do you understand His choosing of you to be His treasured possession?
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you read this?

Nowhere in the Ten Commandments does it specifically say we are to love one another.
It says to honor our parents, not to murder, steal or commit adultery,
tell lies about our neighbor or covet what he has.
Jesus says, “Love one another just as I have loved you.”
This is new; it was not part of the Law.
Jesus had to come here to show us this love, His love.

Jesus’ love was pretty radical back then and it hasn’t changed;
it is still profound and essential today.
How do you show or express the “just as I have loved you” part of the command?

Deuteronomy 5:21 niv

We can want the same kinds of things others have but we are not to desire what is theirs.
If we focus on what others have that we don’t have we will never be satisfied,
we will never know contentment if we want what belongs to others.

I have learned the best way to combat feelings of jealousy and envy
is to make a list of what I have and thank the Lord for everything on that list.

How do you fight the battle when you want what is not yours to have?
