Exodus 20:13 nlt

This seems almost unnecessary to mention,
but God knows the hearts of men and women.
He knows we are self-centered and not always
in control of our passions and tempers.
All we need to do is read the headlines or watch the news on TV
to know there is good reason to have this commandment.
We are to love one another not kill each other.
Killing is not a way to solve our personal problems
or to prove who is most powerful and in charge.

What do you think about this commandment?
Is it all inclusive or are there justifiable murders?

Exodus 20:12 nlt

We are to respect and value our parents.
For most of us this is not difficult but there are those
whose parents are less than admirable.
The commandment has no qualifier attached.
We are simply to honor and care for our parents.
If for no other reason than God says to honor them…do it.
You will be blessed.

What does honor your parents mean to you?
How do you honor your mother and father?

Exodus 20:8 niv

This may be a most difficult commandment for us today.
There is to be a day of rest from labor and business.
A day set apart from the others and sacred.
All days are to be centered on God but the Sabbath day
is to be concentrated on the spiritual aspect of our lives,
a day of worship and prayer, meditation and resting in His presence.

Do you think this can be done in these days and times?
How do you keep the Sabbath day holy?
Do you think it has to be Sunday or can another day be set apart?

Exodus 20:7 nas

Seems easy enough.
But think about it.
It’s important.

Do you use God’s name frivolously or carelessly?
Do you realize if you misuse His name there is a price to pay?

Exodus 20:4 nlt

There is nothing wrong with appreciating art that explores God’s creation.
What God forbids is the worshipping of these things. (verse 5)
Anything that we put before God; a picture, carving, sculpture,
superstition, saying or charm is an idol and to be removed from our lives.
Anything that we use in place of God is wrong.

Are there any little things you do or say for “luck”?
Is it innocent or idol?
