Being Thankful

Be thankful in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:8 nlt

This is a verse that is not difficult to understand. We are to be thankful no matter where we are or what we are experiencing be it good or bad, easy or hard, happy or sad. Why? Because we belong to Jesus and whatever is happening it is part of God’s will for us.

Okay, that was easy to type. But not always easy to believe. When life is going according to my plans or without problems I have no problem accepting that all is just as God wants for me and I am thankful without hesitation. But when my plans go awry and there are unexpected interruptions and problems or there are circumstances not to my liking I tend to question God’s will and there is little thought of being thankful.heart-71227_640

Then Jesus reminds me of this promise;

For I know the plans I have for you,
declares the LORD,
plans for welfare and not for evil,
to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 esv

He has plans for us. Anything that happens (or doesn’t happen) in our lives cannot change what He has planned. With Him we have a future and a hope. That is reason enough to be thankful in all circumstances.

Nothing is a surprise to Him. He knows those who belong to Him. He has plans for us. Nothing will prevent God’s will from being done.
Thank you, Jesus!

As we start the new year, remember:
plans for us have been made,
we have a guidebook with instructions,
we have a Guide.
All we have to do is take the first step of the year
and we are on our way.

What plans do you have for 2015?
Have you talked with the Lord about them?

Jeremiah 6:16 niv

crossroad

Sometimes when we are weary or restless or querulous
it is because we are at a crossroads and don’t know
which way to go or what to do.
Or maybe we have strayed from the path we know,
and have become confused and bewildered, not knowing
where we are or how we got there.

This is when we need to stop and be still, and in prayer,
seek information, instruction, and guidance.
We will be given direction and when we follow it
we will once again know rest and harmony.

Do you feel stressed and tired?
Could it be that you need to stop for a while to get your bearings?

Jeremiah 10:5 niv

scarecrow

There were some in my family who were very superstitious.
They had little sayings and rituals they thought helped prevent
bad things from happening and helped good things to happen.
They had charms and decorative figures they would talk to and touch
hoping their petitions would be heard and all would be well.
They practiced idolatry whether they knew it or not.

Do you have any “good luck” sayings or practices?
Is it a habit or is there some thought that it won’t hurt and might help?

Jeremiah 33:3 niv

treeGod was speaking to Jeremiah here,
but He is also speaking to us.
Often life is a mystery and it seems there no explanation.
Read the verse…God is straightforward here.
Call to Him and He will answer you.

What mystery have you asked God to help you solve?
Do you believe God will answer you?

Blessings this day of grace,
