A Quiet Place With Jesus

Jesus said to His disciples,

We are now at the beginning of a very busy time of year. A season of shopping and socializing, decorating and dining, sending cards and making calls. Lots of places to go,  things to do and people to see.

Jesus is with us in the busyness of our days wherever we are; at work, home, out doing errands. He is with us while we are cleaning, doing laundry, cooking, baking, wrapping gifts, checking off the myriad of things on our to-do lists and in our weariness at the end of the day. He knows that the busier we are we need more of Him not less and He invites us to come away with Him to rest.

In the midst of all the busyness let us remember to
find a quiet place to rest and be alone with Jesus.

Wait Quietly

I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. He alone is my rock and salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken. (Ps 62:1-2)

How I want to say this is true of me! I know my victory comes from Him but I struggle with waiting. Outwardly I am quiet, I am a quiet person, but inwardly I scream and yell and rage. I know He is my rock and salvation and fortress, but I am not strong, I tremble and shake.

Lately, when I talk to Jesus and I tell Him of my weakness and my fears He tells me to be quiet and wait. But for how long? I have been waiting a long time for victory in this peace-of-mind-349815_640struggle. Why is the end of this not in sight? Why do the attacks continue? I am not given an answer to those questions. However, He does remind me that He will give me rest, to put on His yoke and to let Him teach me and I will find rest for my soul. (Matt 11:28-29).

If you are struggling with something that seems endless listen to what Jesus says. Be encouraged. He has promised to never leave or abandon us (Jos 1:5) Sometimes it seems that we are left alone in the wilderness of our sufferings but that is a lie that satan wants us to believe. The Spirit dwells within us and will guide us to the fortress of the Lord.

This is my prayer:

Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken. Ps 62:5-6)

Psalm 46:10 nlt

If we are always busy, always moving and doing, always talking;
we cannot hear or see what only the heart can discover and understand.
It is in the depths of quiet and stillness that we come to know God.

Is it difficult for you to be quiet and still?
Is it because you are busy or are you uncomfortable in silence?
Maybe if you were quiet and still God would fill the silence.

Isaiah 30:15 gw

God knew what was in the heart and mind of Israel.
He knew what they wanted and what they didn’t want.
He knew what they needed and what they had to do to have it.
But they wanted their own way and didn’t want to listen to Him.
Just like people today.

Do you want what the Lord wants?

John 10 3b-4 esv

A shepherd does not raise his voice when calling his sheep.
He speaks to them in a quiet voice that comforts them.
Because they know his voice they willingly follow him without fear.

You have a shepherd who speaks quietly to you.
Listen for His voice.  You are of His flock.
He calls to you to follow Him.

When you pray do you do all the talking?
If you do how will you know your Shepherd’s voice?
